High Gloss finished kitchen doors can be both beautiful and hardwearing, but there are a few things you should know before making your choice.
There is plenty to consider before you decide on your new fitted kitchen, from the practical aspects to the aesthetics. So what effect will choosing high gloss kitchen doors have on both of these considerations.
Firstly not all high gloss kitchen doors are manufactured in the same way. You get what you pay for, as always in life. There are four types of high gloss finish that are used in kitchen door manufacturing. They are, melamine, vinyl or PVC, acrylic and gloss lacquer. As you move from melamine through to lacquer the price and quality increases.
Lifestyle Kitchens Reflections range has a lacquer finish which has a much glossier, deeper colour than cheaper melamine doors which look very flat and dull by comparison.
Clearly one of the biggest choices you will make apart from the material used in the manufacture of the doors will be the colour of your high gloss kitchen.
What’s it to be, bold, striking primary colours or something more subtle?
Your choice will be dependant on the size of your kitchen and the amount of natural daylight available. Generally speaking, the bigger your kitchen the more daring you can be. We recently completed a very successful design for a client where we broke the high gloss colours up into three distinct areas. In one we used black high gloss doors, opposite them we used Zebrano finished cabinets and in the third area we designed a white gloss kitchen island topped with a Glacier white Corian® worktop.
Now, although this sounds like this shouldn't work, the end result was truly stunning. This should inspire you to be significantly more adventurous than you think, especially if you are going to be living in your home for many years to come.
In addition to providing a truly stunning finish, a high gloss fitted kitchen will last longer than many people think. The finish is quite resistant to knocks and scratches and whilst it does tend to show finger marks, a quick wipe with a soft damp cloth easily removes them ,leaving that lovely gloss finish to reflect the natural light throughout your kitchen.
So, in conclusion, choose wisely, be bold and have a kitchen to be proud of.
